Protest songs are important because they help us understand how we are feeling. They comfort us and encourage us to act if we can. I celebrate the Maine musicians who are using their skills to push back. Please contact me if you know of more.

“Life after life/No longer free
They shot a man on live TV.”

“Tell these dollar store Nazis to drop all their guns/Hop in their trucks, and get the f**k out of our scene”

“That thing you just saw you didn’t see.”

“Ain’t nobody going to save us. Honey, we’ve got to save ourselves.”

“Deep in my heart I do believe/We shall overcome some day.”

“As a white man in Maine…if there’s anything I can do to use my white privilege…”

“This is Minnesota and we won’t back down.”

“We’ll take our stand for this land and the stranger in our midst.”

The Boss can be an honorary Mainer. He used to do work at Gateway Mastering so often, a restaurant on Congress St. named a sandwich after him.

@_shinetheband_ has a song called “Ice Is On The Streets.” Click the link to hear it.
